Zap

The shortest path through impossible space

A technically gifted pilot whose reckless-looking maneuvers are precise enough to bring the Freedom home.

Built for the Cockpit

Zap is a lean Latino pilot whose compact build fits the Freedom's cramped controls without sacrificing leverage. Thick black hair refuses to stay neat, short sides expose the neural-flight interface behind one ear, and an old electrical burn traces the left side of his neck. The black and steel-blue pressure suit, electric-yellow stitching, worn short jacket, and fingerless technical gloves are selected for movement and tactile control rather than appearance.

Reckless Is Not Random

His loud confidence hides an exact understanding of mass, thrust, and how close a damaged hull can pass before debris becomes impact. Zap takes lines that look impossible because he has already calculated the correction. When the maneuver ends, the joke arrives a second later—dry, fast, and usually aimed at whoever doubted him.

The One Who Brings Them Back

He will gamble with his own comfort and reputation, never with a crewmate's recovery window. That distinction is why Carter keeps him at the controls when an ordinary escape vector is no longer enough.
